The music video version of the song seems to have some added audio. During and after the lyrics "They say all teenagers scare the living shit out of me", there are piano notes playing in the background in the style of western music . The album version of the song does not have this piano playing until the coda. This songs meaning as others said above is the adults view on the teenagers they see now a days. Because we wear dark cloths and listen to punk, metal, rock, etc.
They think we are problematic because we try to show we are different from the rest of there children. That we are not exact copies of there pathetic douche bag children. We try to show we are different so they think of us as violent rebels.
We wanna be different and I will do anything or say anything to anyone to protect what I stand for. I don't know about you guys but I am proud of being a different "violent" teenager I rather be that than those kids that ridicule others because they are different. I think this song is about the teenage stereotypes. According to ignorant adults, all teenagers are either violent, vicious, or drug addicts. When they see teens that don't fit these prejudgements [goths, emos, etc.] they don't know how to respond, except to try and fit them into one of those categories. That's what the line "darken your clothes/ i'll strike a violent pose/ maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me" is about.
When you don't understand something, you stay away from it- fear of the unknown. All lyrics are property and copyright of their respective authors, artists and labels. This song was started on a subway around a bunch of people dresses in hot topic stuff. But the reason the song was published was actually for a violence awareness event. This song also is actually about a young teens life. Gerard way the lead singer wrote this song when he was on a subway in New York, and there were a lot of teenagers around him making a mess of things and being pushy with other people.
I think this also relates with his childhood, because he was bullied a lot in his teenage years, which also caused him to have many suicidal thoughts and self harming. His little brother Mikey also had the same issues. In this song, the singer talks about how adults are apprehensive of teenagers for no apparent reason. Idk, that's probably just my more positive, feelsy romantic spin on it I suppose haha. Lyric CorrectionAren't the lyrics to the choruses "So darken your clothes, or strike a violent pose. Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me." I feel that this is about the perspective of a young teen who feels like no one understands them and who is bullied. This can also represent the struggle of someone who is trying to figure out who they are.
And also how adult try there best to keep their kids in line but it seems like the harder they try the worse the kids get. But not everyone needs to be helicoptered, especially at that age when teens are figuring out life and becoming more independent. This can be hard and they need support, but they want to figure things out on there own. For me, the "So darken your clothes, or strike a violent pose / Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me!" part is different than what others said. To me, teenagers isn't about going and shooting up a school because no one understands me; like some like to claim this song is about.
It's a song that says "i've been in your shoes. I've been on the edge. But you know what? I made it through and so can you. " this song got me through my worst year of school--8th grade. I was tormented beyond any kind of belief, but when I turned it on, I thought about the people who have it way worse than I did. It helped me, I hope it makes as big of a positive impact to everyone who reads these lyrics.
In my point of view this song just puts out the way government feels about teenagers. No matter what we are your future and no one can change that unless they wipe the whole teenage population of the face of the earth ;) but I like this song it makes me think what I can do. The music video opens with an almost shot-for-shot tribute to the first scene of Pink Floyd's film The Wall. Further links to The Wall are seen when cheerleaders don gas masks in a similar manner to the masks worn by the teenaged and young adult fans in the film. Music video"Teenagers" on YouTube"Teenagers" is the fourth and final single and the eleventh track from My Chemical Romance's third studio album, The Black Parade .

They sleep with a gun because they may be partially scared knowing you could do something at anytime. And they're going to watch you to make sure you're turning into the 'perfect' teenager. " they're gonna clean up your looks" meaning that if your different, you must conform. " to make a citizen out of you" well, I have a subject in school called, cspe, and all the book talks about is how to be afraid of the law and to be a good citizen. You could also say it's about teen violence, which I think the song was originally written about.
I feel that mcr is trying to say it's better to wear dark clothes and not fit in and scare people, than to actually be violent because no one gets hurt. The video was posted by the band via their YouTube channel on May 30, 2007 and has since obtained over 146 million views as of September 2021. Sometime around November 1, 2007, the video passed the "Famous Last Words" video as the third most played video on the site. This version of the video cut out the word "shit". The MTV version differs from the YouTube version; notably the teenagers breaking in was cut out, as well as the words "gun", "shit", and "murder".
The video has debuted on Total Request Live. The song entered the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart at #2, before debuting at #87 on the Hot 100 the following week as the "Hot Shot" debut of the week, and peaked at #67. It has reached #23 on the Pop 100, and #13 on Modern Rock Tracks.
It also debuted at #42 in the UK, and became the band's fourth straight top 20 hit from The Black Parade and their third top ten hit from the album, peaking at #9. It debuted at number 16 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Genius is the ultimate source of music knowledge, created by scholars like you who share facts and insight about the songs and artists they love. No, the song isn't about a school shooting since it isn't told from the perspective of a student or teenager. The song references not fitting in, and although the line "what you got under your shirt" is most likely referencing a gun or shooting, I don't believe the main theme of the song is about it. The song was written by Gerard when he was on a subway and had a panic attack because there were so many teenagers riding on it as well.
When guitarist Frank Iero heard the song for the first time, he thought it was a joke. The cover came complete with remixed artwork, a new song title and band name. It features the simple and straightforward sounds K.K.
Slider has been making since the beginning of the video game's franchise. Gerard is saying, most adults will leave you alone, but not him. He's reaching out to teenagers with his songs, wanting them to open up. I think it's in the perspective of the teenagers. They think if they dress manly or punkish, they'll scare off adults. They keep to themselves, because "Adults don't understand."
Adults are trying to control them which is ripping their aspirations to shreds and causing them to become murder machines or possibly emo. " because the drugs never work" has two meanings I think. Gerard Way was given drugs cos he had a hyper active disorder when he was a kid and they never really work. It could also be directed against the kids from the parents.
Drugs never work, but saying these things make a person want to try them more. The first verse is like what adults, parents, the government and school say. Gerard has actually done drugs before and he knows the side affects. Because Gerard has so much experience with drugs he does not want to have other teenagers suffer from the same consequences. By My Chemical Romance putting it in a song he hoped it would prevent drug use with teens.
Pretty sure there's no "dock in" or "tuck in" your clothes, or "I'll strike a violent pose." "What you got under your shirt will make them pay for the things that they did" is a reference to school shootings. The verse is describing a kid getting bullied by the clique and then bringing a gun to school.
This song is about the kids who dress in black and don't want to conform, and get bullied by their envionment from parents, teachers and other kids in the "popular crowd". The singer reminisces about his teenage years and attempts to convey the unfair prejudice against teenagers that he experienced. Enter issue 398 cover artists iann dior and Måneskin, who represent the changing nature of alternative music in their own ways. There's no other way to describe it than angst. When we saw this The Black Parade era video for the first time in 2007, we felt seen and had an undeniable desire to run outside and wreak havoc with our friends in any way possible. I think he means that all the teenagers are forced to look though and violent, because of all the others.
If you are a teenagers and act softie or different you are likely to be bullied. There talking about how teenagers scare most of society because of how troubled and uncontrollable the vast majority of teenagers are. What you got under your shirt" might have something to do with transgender kids trying to work out their identity.
I remember being there like it was yesterday. I was there BEFORE any of it was cool or accepted by anyone. LMFAO. I'm trying to timeline the song in reference to history. I just want to say your struggles aren't new.
You are all in a better place than I 35 years ago. What you have under your shirt refers to hiding a weapon like a gun and you want to kill the person that put you through all that trouble. Kinda like the whole karma's a 'bitch' thing. Teenagers don't care until the bullies that bullied them bleed or are killed.
So wear black and stuff to try to get people to leave you alone but adults/parents still may not. They are going to try and make you look 'normal' like all the cliche normal jocks, preppy's. Provide song facts, names, places and other worthy info that may give readers a perfect insight on the song's meaning. " they sleep with a gun and keep and eye on you, son. so they can watch all the things you do" kind of like everyone is watching you and scared of what you do next. I. Just get this so much already and I just turned 13.
I'm different to most people I listen to old music like pink floyd and the clash but most of my friends like pop. Don't get me wrong, I do like some of that its just. See everyone as yourself and pick on them as if you were being picked. If you wouldn't like what you say said to you then they probably don't either. The future is inevitable and cannot be bypassed no matter how far it seems away. You're going to look back on today tomorrow no matter what, can you do it and not regret?
Can you do it and proudly say that you didn't hurt anyone? Life is hard, and yours probably will be at times, but can you honestly sleep well knowing that you didn't make someone's harder? Can you sleep freely without constantly thinking about what you did?
You can't change the past, but you're in your futures past, make yourself proud now and save your future. This video made its world premiere in New Zealand, which was also the first country in which The Black Parade reached number one. Multiple pirated versions of the video surfaced on the Internet days before the American debut.
I always saw the chorus as more of a jab at the adults and their ignorance towards teenagers. Probably because they remember what they were like when they were that age – young and selfish. And they know that people of that age tend to think for themselves, rather than blindly listen to authority figures.
